Originariamente chiamato Saulo, nacque a Tarso. È cresciuto come un ebreo farisaico. Dapprima perseguitò i cristiani, prendendo parte anche alla lapidazione di santo Stefano, primo martire cristiano. La leggenda narra che si convertì al cristianesimo sulla via di Damasco. Una volta convertito, cambiò il suo nome in Paolo e iniziò un nuovo ministero nel diffondere il messaggio del cristianesimo nel mondo.

Originally called Saul, he was born in Tarsus. He grew up a pharisee jew. At first he persecuted Christians, even taking part in the stoning of Saint Stephen, the first Christian martyr. Legend has it that he converted to Christianity on the road to Damascus. Once converted, he changed his name to Paul and began a new ministry in spreading the message of Christianity to the world.
